NEIGHBOR PROFILE

David and Teresa Denney

David and Teresa Denney are both native Alabamians.  Teresa grew up in Sheffield, Alabama and David in Lanett, Alabama.  Both of them attended Samford University in Birmingham.  Teresa and David actually met her first month at Samford and dated four years, marrying upon graduation in 1973.

David and Teresa started their family in 1977 at which time Teresa became an "at home" mom, a role she thoroughly loved.  During that time, Teresa coached high school varsity cheerleaders during the time their sons played varsity sports.

David worked at West Point Pepperell as Operations Analyst for the Transportation Department, Director of Transportation at Callaway Chemical and finally as Division Manager for Burris Chemical.

Teresa and David's two sons are Josh (Maria) who live in Tuscaloosa and Davis (Sara) who live in Montgomery.  All are Auburn grads – War Eagle!  David and Teresa are blessed with four grandsons and one granddaughter.

Teresa and David always enjoyed family vacations to the Gulf of Mexico, including visits to Teresa's aunt, Pearl Dukes, who lived on Hammock Creek.  On a visit to "Aunt Pearl", David and Teresa told Pearl that if she ever decided to sell her home to let them know first.  Three months later, she decided to sell and seven years later they became full time residents on Hammock Creek.  They call their home "Denney's Bend".

In 2004, David and Teresa built a custom home next to the original home place.  They were forced to move into their new home while it was still under construction due to three feet of water entering the original home during Hurricane Ivan.  Now they use the original home as their guesthouse since they have a revolving door of family and friends.  The guesthouse is appropriately named "Hammock Haven", a name to which all of their guests agree.

Since moving to Josephine, the Denney family became known as "Teresa, David, and Elbe (Princess Elberta)".  Elbe was their beloved Weimaraner of 12 years.  Elbe enjoyed countless early morning bay fishing trips with David and family road trips galore.  In June, with great sadness, they had to tell their empty nest dog "goodbye".  Being dog lovers, the Denneys will soon have another Weimaraner who will call Denney's Bend home. David and Teresa enjoy living on the water, taking regular 5:00 boat excursions on Hammock Creek/Wolf Bay, and never tire of seeing osprey nests, dolphin, pelicans, herons, and even alligators.  Most recently, a manatee was spotted in front of their dock.

Teresa has been Chair of the ladies ministries at Josephine Baptist Church since 2003 helping organize 12 ladies events for the Josephine Community and surrounding areas. She is very proud of the fantastic group of women assisting with each event, the next which is on March 2, 2013 which will be held in the new fellowship hall at the Josephine Baptist Church.  Teresa also heads up Josephine Baptist Church's Samaritan Purse Shoebox Project each fall.  David is currently head of the Building and Grounds Committee at Josephine Baptist Church and also serves on the board of the Josephine Volunteer Fire Department.  In addition, David teaches the "Be Ye Kind One To Another" Co-Ed Sunday School class at Josephine Baptist Church at 9:30 A.M.  Both Teresa and David encourage everyone to attend as they discuss the sermons by Dr. Ted Mashburn.

The Josephine Community is indeed fortunate to have the energy, enthusiasm, and unselfish service to our community which Teresa and David have provided for so many years.
